My Predicament
There’s only two reasons for you to miss Apple’s latest hit – the #AppleSilicon, notably, their M1 chip. Either you’ve been living under a rock, or you’re a hardcore #Windows fan. Nevertheless #AppleSilicon has proven itself to be a major industry disruptor. You can read more on it here, Jean-Louis Gassée’s provides a thorough overview on the effect of M1’s release.
Still running on my 2012 13″ MacBook Air on #MacOS #Catalina, I’m one of the few who can’t wait for the M2 or M1X to be released. With the recent leaks reported by Front Page Tech showed the beauty of the redesigned 13″ MacBook Air and corroborating Mark Gurman’s prediction of the newer models to arrive in end 2021 or early 2022. End 2021?! Early 2022!? I can’t wait that long!!!!
The Prediction
After calming down for a few minutes and reviewing the dates of past releases, it does make sense that the next releases will be in later 2021, so spilling over to 2022. You can see it below, done based on the duration between the M1 MacBook Air/Pro in late 2020 and the recent M1 iMac and iPad Pro:
Timeframe | Announcement | Details |
---|---|---|
Jun 2020 | Apple Silicon | This was when the Apple Silicon was officially announced, commencing the 2-year transition plan |
Nov 2020 | M1-enabled MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, MacMini | The announcement of M1-enabled lower-end Macs, limited to the 13″ models |
Apr 2021 | M1-enabled iMac, iPad Pro | Not really lower-end Macs but M1-enabled prosumer Macs |
Nov 2021 | New-gen MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini | Prosumer Macs with improved Thunderbolt controllers and better screens and SSDs. No 16″ releases but only 14″ MacBooks |
Apr 2022 | New-gen Mac | High-end Mac updates, this is when you’ll see the 16″ MacBook Pro and Mac Pro updated with the New-gen Apple Silicon. I’ll gander the release of even an M3 for the advanced Mac Pro |
The Wait
Since I’m in the market for a slightly more powerful 14″ MacBook Pro that has a #Magsafe – I have to wait for another 7 months! I almost lost my MacBook Air when someone tripped over my laptop but thank GOD for the magnetically released charger, plus I still my Razer Core with an Asus 5700XT in it. I really want that to work. Wish my luck on my 6-month wait.
